Verrucae
Verrucae are a common, minor foot problem that should have minimal impact on your overall health. They are simply a benign tumour, similar to a wart, caused by the Papilloma Virus. However, they can affect your daily life due to the embarrassment they cause and, left untreated, can easily spread to other family members or multiply within the affected area.
Verrucae typically last for about two years and present both as a single version, or a cluster. They are easily identified by the black dots that often appear on the surface which are tiny blood vessels. Initial infection occurs by the virus entering the skin via a small wound or cut. Discomfort or pain may be experienced if it is sited on a weight bearing part of the foot.
How to avoid a verruca
Verrucae require warmth and moisture hence why they are easily spread in environments such as gyms, bathrooms, and swimming pools. To minimise your risk, always use a waterproof plaster to cover any cuts and check your feet regularly.
Treatment
All First4feet practitioners are highly experienced in the best way to treat verrucae and achieve successful outcomes for our clients. Your treatment options will be discussed, after an initial appraisal to determine your specific needs, and will include either application of acid or a freezing process.
Further treatment
Our practitioner will advise how many sessions you require and may suggest regular maintenance appointments following treatment to prevent further problems.
